【解説１】 more を使う比較級

　

　�@ 単語の中の発音上の切れ目を音節という。(音のかたまりの数を 〜音節という)

　

　　　 [例]　beautiful は beau・ti・ful のように３つの音のかたまりなので３音節という。

　

　

　�A ３音節以上の単語と２音節で −ful，−ous などで終わる語の比較級は 単語の後に

　　　　　　　　　　　　　 [ er を付けない ] で、単語の [ 前に more ]をつけて比較級にする。

　

　　 (普通の文)　　This flower is　　　beautiful．　　　　　　　　この花は 美しい。

　

　　 (比較級の文)　This flower is more beautiful than that one．　この花は あの花より美しい。

　

　　　　　　　　　 Which is more beautiful，this flower or that one．

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 この花とあの花では どちらが美しいですか。

　

【解説２】 most を使う最上級

　

　● [ 最上級 ] も比較級と同様に単語の後に [ est を付けない ] で、単語の

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 [ 前に the most ] をつける。

　

　　 (普通の文)　　This flower is　　　　　beautiful．　　　　 この花は 美しい。

　

　　 (最上級の文)　This flower is the most beautiful of the three．

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 この花は ３つの中で最も美しい。
